This is my first blog from work and I am incredibly terrified that someone will be coming to my cubicle any minute and catch me blogging! I dont think it's a crime, especially since 95% of the office is in a meeting and I have nothing to do at the moment, but nonetheless, it's pretty scary.
Work. What can I say? I've done on and off again work for my father's IT company, but as of last month, I am a MWF employee. The girl they had working here before was a bit of a ditz and even tried to modify her time sheet for a couple extra bucks. Oh. and she spent most of her time on Facebook. (shut up, this is totally different!) The difference here is, I actually get my work done, and do it correctly at that.
I think i'd enjoy this job a lot more if I had more stuff to do. I know, it sounds pretty ridiculous, that I'm annoyed that I dont have ENOUGH WORK to do. But seriously, I've got to be here until 5 every day anyways, might as well do something productive instead of be on Blogger and the like.
Some of the lovely productive things I do include an HP Sales Report (every Monday), data entry, filing, accounts payable and recieveable, getting/sorting through the mail, counting/depositing checks, answering phones, and doing customer service call surveys (BLEH).
So all in all, not a bad day. Too bad I get done with most of this stuff before 3 o clock.
It doesnt help that Steven is probably taking me to Chillis for our 9 month anniversary tonight. 4 hours and 23 mintues to go!

Joining the Shanghai Circus - Who's With Me?

Just saw the Chinese Acrobats in Missouri. He thinks it's ridiculous that I might possibly change how I act around certain people in order for them to like me more. He's right. It is pretty stupid. But when he simply tells me to be myself, I just dont get it. How can someone just be themselves? How can you know what that really is? Should we not strive to be better people just because, well, that's not us? I believe people can, and should, change - if they want to.
To be completely honest, I've never been totally satisfied with myself. Who has, really? It's just human nature to be dissatisfied with their bodies - inside or out. Sure, I've got self-esteem issues once in a while like the rest of 'em, but what I really hated about myself was my shyness. My inability to initiate, to interact. I found myself pushed aside easily, invisible. My biggest fear. The very root of my self-esteem issues. What I hate to be more than anything else...is what I thought I'd always be.
So, go ahead. Be yourself.
Can you tell me to be invisible?
Go ahead, try. It took me two years, at least, and I'm still trying to get over my issues of feeling invisible. I used to be young, shy, stupid. Part of growing up is changing. Sure, you should follow the advice, to be yourself. But maybe it's okay to mold yourself into the person you wish to be.
Random and not extremely well put into words, I know, but..
any thoughts?

Welcome to the World, Graduate!

Yes, it is true. As of last Sunday, May 25th, I am officially a high school grad. Sadly, I just spelled "high school" as one word and had to go back and change it. Spell check! - Friend of 2008 high school graduates everywhere! Anyway, it was a lovely ceremony (snooze fest) apart from the speaker, that is. Blaise Winter. Former Packer, Colt?, Buccaneer? No, no. Now I'm just naming random football teams I've heard of. But he was definitely a Packer. And definitely a psycho. Picture this. All 600-something of us grads waiting patiently (or, not.) for the key speaker to come on stage and give his long and boring spiel about coming into the 'real world' and how we should 'follow our dreams' when all of a sudden! We hear the theme song from Rocky start to play and the camera shifts to the back of the field house, where a man with a cut-off SPASH shirt and sweatbands comes out wearing our mascots (a panther) head and holding two cans of silly string. Oh believe me, it gets worse. As he makes his way down the long aisle that splits all us disbelieving grads, he continues to spray silly string on our beautiful, pressed, black graduation gowns and motion for different portions of the crowd to shout. Is this a pep rally or your graduation, you ask? All I can do is shake my head sadly.
Ps - thanks jayni for inspiring me to actually do another post!
Pps - yesterday I attempted to make a bowl using army men. Results were fair - pieces broke off but next time I make one I'll just have to leave it in for a couple more minutes. Pictures will be posted later.

Late Night Thoughts

So i was thinking last night, as i was falling asleep...(and of course the greatest and most random thoughts occur late at night) Jack White named his band The White Stripes, well...stripes is just something random, right? (Steven is shaking his head as he has read their biography 50 million times and would love to tell me that there is some definite meaning behind their name...oops! BUT for the sake of this random thought..i'm saying it's just a random thing :P) Anyhoo, since he used his last name and some random thing (again, sorry!) i decided to name my future-totally-made-up-never-gonna-happen band The Martin Bandits. because my last name is Martin, and..Bandits. just because.
what'dya think?

Some Introductions Are In Order

The first thing i should do is explain the name. No Carbon Copies. Please. My boyfriend and i <strike>love to</strike> discuss music. Maybe discuss isnt the right word...Ah well, that's besides the point. Anyhoo, Steven is a musical genius and i, well, simply am not. Sure, i can sing fairly well, but that doesnt mean i can make informed decisions on what is good and what is not. Basically, before he came around, i found myself listening to bands that all sounded pretty much the same. Not horrendously bad, mind you, (ie. Hannah Montana) but, not good either. i'd like to believe that i have changed, or, more correctly, that he's enhanced my ability to spot good music (i hate to admit it, but movies, too.) but i still find myself with saves the day and jimmy eat world songs splashed across the screen on my zune - which has at least 4,000 other, better songs on it (even by his standards - although most ARE his :P). So. i find myself being constantly teased as we ride around in my car and he scans my extremely eclectic selection of songs for something worth listening to. We try to find a genre (my favorite word! shook being my least.) that would classify the old-me's taste in music...and finally come up with Carbon Copy. As this is the OLD me's favorite, i figured No Carbon Copies would be a more fitting name for new-me's blog :P
i suppose another explanation of the name could be the fact that i hate conformity and love love love handmade things. Yes, key fact people - i am a crafter. in the modern age of technology, there still exists those who love to craft. Dont get me wrong, i love computers and gadgets (my father owns an IT company that i am a current employee at!) but making something real and 100% you is just so rewarding.
making stencils is my recent obsession :P

Go check out all my lovely crafts on Facebook!!
like the quilt i am working on made from beautiful old man sweaters!
isnt crafting wonderful?
:D

i'd think of more to say, but brain functioning usually turns off about now...
g'night!
